#1. HOW TO PLAY MORE AGGRESSIVE ON THE PICKLEBALL COURT

How to Play More Aggressive on the Pickleball Court | Pickler Pickleball

Successful pickleball players apply pressure on their opponents. To apply pressure, you need to play aggressive. This does not mean that you need to drive, speed up, and bang every single shot. You may drive and add speed to shots, but that is not the sole measure for aggressiveness.

Click here to learn how to play more aggressive on the pickleball court, and apply more pressure on your opponents. πŸ”₯

#2. WATERS SPOTLIGHT - ANNA LEIGH'S GOOD & BAD DAYS WITH PICKLEBALL

Anna Leigh Waters' Good & Bad Days with Pickleball | Pickler Pickleball

Playing pickleball inevitably leads to days where you play great and days where you play not so great. This is especially true for professional pickleball players, who are making a career out of their performance on the pickleball court.

Click here to learn from Anna Leigh Waters herself, how she, as the 14-year old making up one half of the mother-daughter professional pickleball team known as Team Waters, handles both good days and bad days competing on the pickleball court.

Spoiler alert 🚨: Cake, ice cream, and shopping are involved! πŸ°πŸ¦πŸ›

Team Waters are looking to defend their title as National Champions. #3. PICKLEBALL STRATEGY - 7 TIPS TO MASTER SKINNY SINGLES

Pickleball Strategy: 7 Tips to Master Skinny Singles | Pickler Pickleball

One of the best drills in pickleball is skinny singles. Skinny singles only requires you and one other player. You can play skinny singles straight on or crosscourt (be sure to try all directional combinations!), but the key is that you will only play in half of the court.

Although skinny singles is a great drill, it is also becoming a game of its own. Many clubs, communities, and other event organizers are hosting skinny singles tournaments, leagues, and other events. So, since skinny singles is becoming a bit more advanced and organized, we figured it may be helpful to have a pickleball blog dedicated to skinny singles strategy. #7. QUICK TIP - DON'T FORGET TO KEEP YOUR PADDLE UP!

Quick Tip - Keep Your Paddle Up | Pickler Pickleball

Since our last newsletter, we received a question for some practical advice on how to remember to keep your paddle up on the pickleball court. As a reminder, keeping your paddle up and ready helps by cutting down your reaction time to hit the pickleball. You only have a fraction of a second to react, so doing as much as possible to be ready before your opponents hit the pickleball is important.

Keeping your paddle up and ready is important. Although it is an easy concept, many pickleball players forget. To help you remember:

  • Before every point, as you get in your ready position, raise your paddle in front of your body (or give yourself another mental cue 🧠, like gripping your paddle with two hands before the serve) as a reminder.
  • When you are at the Kitchen Line, you should be able to see your paddle in your periphery. If not, then your paddle may be down.
  • If you get beat by your opponents, before you go to the next rally, ask yourself if you were slow to react to the pickleball because your paddle was down. If so, remind yourself to keep your paddle up and go back to the first bullet.

Bottom line: Keep your paddle up and ready!

  • Two widowers, Lorrie Zorzit and Chet Babcock, found love for a second time due to the sport of pickleball. Without pickleball, the two would never have met, never fallen in love, and never got married under an arch decorated with hanging pickleballs. πŸ‘°πŸ€΅
  • The Pickaway County Pickleball Association helped pay pickleball forward by visiting local middle schools and high schools to work with the P.E. teachers and to help teach more than 100 students to play pickleball. As they say, start 'em young!
  • The sport of pickleball was featured in a few YouTube videos recently:
    • A pickleball music video by Maxta Chief, for a song titled "What You Know About That Pickleball." Click here to watch.
    • A sports media company, Jomboy Media, created a humorous breakdown of a few pickleball rallies at a recent PPA pickleball tournament. Click here to watch.
  • The Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) launched its Next Gen Series in San Antonio, Texas. This Next Gen Series is a pickleball tournament series for players aged 16 to 23, and has the goal of building champions, as it is a platform for young pickleball players to play and receive coaching form top senior pros, as well as compete amongst the best young pickleball talent in the country. The top male and female players from this first event were JW Johnson and Yana Grechkina. Congrats, JW and Yana! πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡
  • If you like watching the pro pickleball players compete, then you may be interested to hear that there will be some new partnerships in 2022. #9. RULES REFRESH - DOUBLE HITS COUNT!

Rules Refresh | Pickler Pickleball

Have you ever accidentally hit the pickleball twice in one motion before? Did you know that this could be a legal shot?

Double hits πŸ’₯πŸ’₯ are legal on the pickleball courts, but only under certain circumstances. To be a legal double hit, the hit must be (1) unintentional, (2) continuous, (3) a single-direction stroke, and (4) by just one player. If the double hit does not meet any of these four criteria (i.e. the double hit is intentional, not continuous, in multiple directions, or struck by more than one player), then the double hit will result in a fault and the player hitting the pickleball will lose the rally. Double hits are also permitted on the serve.

For a deeper breakdown on all of the rules of pickleball, check out Pickler's Ultimate Guide to the Rules of Pickleball.

Have you had an interesting rules issue on the pickleball court? Send it to us at stacie@thepickler.com, so we can share with the rest of the pickleball community in a future newsletter.
