#2. TOUGH BREAKS IN THE LIFE OF A PICKLEBALL

With an estimated five million Americans picking up the sport, and that number growing every year, there’s an accelerating demand for pickleballs themselves. The outdoor version of these balls degrade quickly with use and present a special challenge in recycling. ♻️ Some pickleballers are doing their own recycling of broken pickleballs.

#3. MURMURS FROM THE LOSERS’ BRACKET: WE BEAT GO FISH!

#4. WHAT IS THE “TWEENER” IN PICKLEBALL & WHEN TO USE IT

A “tweener” is a slang term used to describe a creative and often flashy shot 😎 that is hit between your legs. Learn some key points about the tweener shot, including some tips on when to try this show on the court.

#5. HOW TO HIT A "TWEENER" IN PICKLEBALL

Hitting a “tweener” shot in pickleball can be an exciting and effective way to surprise your opponents, but it requires proper technique and timing. Learn the basic steps to execute a tweener shot successfully on the pickleball court.

#6. QUICK TIP – PADDLE WAIST DOWN IN TRANSITION

The transition zone—the area between the Kitchen and the baseline—is the most difficult area to play on the court, as your opponents are able to target your feet. 🎯 With that in mind, when moving through the transition zone, stay compressed with your knees bent (i.e., do not stand up tall) and keep your paddle around your waist or even a little lower (as opposed to keeping your paddle up around your chest), which will make it easier—and take less time—to react to those likely low shots from your opponents.

#7. RULES REFRESH Q&A – OUT OF BOUNDS

By Mark Peifer, USA Pickleball Certified Referee; Past Chairman, USA Pickleball Rules Committee

QUESTION: I'm wondering what the rule is regarding hitting a ball that has bounced out?

For example, team A hits ball to team B's court. The ball bounces out of bounds, but team B player hits ball back to team A's court, not realizing it bounced out. Team A now doesn't know whether or not to hit it back because they have these questions:

  • Would the play continue? Would team A get the fault for hitting it out of bounds?
  • Would team B get the fault for not realizing it was out, and hitting an out of bounds ball?

ANSWER: Once the ball hits on Team B's court, Team B is responsible for determining if the ball is 'in' or 'out'. If Team B does not make an 'out' call (which appears to be the case in the scenario you presented) then the ball is presumed 'in' and play continues. If, however, Team A thinks their ball was, in fact, 'out', then Team A may call their own ball 'out' to their own disadvantage and stop play. 🛑

Team A would only get the fault for hitting the ball out of bounds if Team B called the ball 'out' after the ball bounced on the B side of the net or if Team A called their own ball out (the ultimate in sportsmanship).

There is no circumstance under which Team B would get the fault for hitting an out of bounds ball from Team A.
