#1. WHAT SHOULD YOU FOCUS ON IN PICKLEBALL: CONSISTENCY OR SPEED?
In pickleball, is it better to consistently get the ball over the net and between the lines of the court (e.g., countless, consistent dinks)? Or, is it better to be able to hit shots with power and speed at your opponents? Learn more on the delicate balance ⚖️ of consistency and speed.
#2. 7 SIGNS THAT THE PRO PICKLEBALL PLAYERS ARE JUST LIKE THE REST OF US

#3. MURMURS FROM THE LOSERS' BRACKET: MAKING PICKLEBALL LESS "DEVASTATING" TO AMATEURS
We here at Murmurs from the Losers’ Bracket did not shed any tears after learning that USA Pickleball banned the one-handed spin serve. However, we have some thoughts based on the reasoning for the rule change, including some additional rules to implement... (*For those new to Murmurs from the Losers’ Bracket, this is a (mostly) humorous tongue-in-cheek opinion piece - don't take us too seriously). 😂

#8. RULES REFRESH - NET POST = RALLY KILLER
The video below shows a point from a women’s doubles match at the PPA Hertz Championships in Orlando, Florida. In this point, pro player Anna Bright winds up for a forehand attack that lands in the other side of the court, but not before the ball ricocheting off of the net post. What is the call? 🤔
Bright (and her partner, Jessie Irvine) lose the rally. Net posts (including all of the related parts, such as the wheels, arms, and other parts) are positioned out of bounds. As a result, if the pickleball touches the net post, then the player that last hit the pickleball commits a fault and loses the rally. This is true regardless of where the pickleball lands. So, Bright committed a fault as soon as the pickleball hit the net post on her shot.
Bottom line – It is a fault if the pickleball hits the net post.
#9. HEADLINES FROM THE COURT
Looking for a deeper dive on the latest pickleball headlines in Pickler The Newsroom... 🗞
- 2022 was labeled “The Year of the Dink.” Pickleball just exploded 💥 this year. It brought people together (as even churches and synagogues are turning to pickleball to foster community), and it also sparked debate and controversy. In just the past couple of weeks alone, tennis and pickleball players 🎾 have feuded over the viability of pickleball, while disputes continue to swirl between players and neighbors.
- Not to mention, pickleball became the celebrity rage 🎬 in 2022, pulling in celebrity investors for Major League Pickleball, grabbing attention on talk shows (like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and podcasts (like this recent discussion between Logan Paul and Wiz Khalifa), and enticing celebrities to get on the courts themselves for very reasons the rest of us do—pickleball is fun and you can burn up to 600 calories an hour doing it! Some celebrity athletes, like pro basketball Jewell Lloyd, are even turning to pickleball as their second pro sport! 🏀
- Pickleball is also getting its very own virtual reality game, so you can potentially burn those calories from your living room. 🎮
- But, while some believe this is just the beginning, others—like the sports editor for the New York Times—are hoping 2023 brings an end to all of the media craze that is talking about pickleball. Instead, he wants to “get back to just playing it for the sheer joy of playing it. Because that would make for a pretty good story.”

#11. QUICK TIP - USE A PRE-SERVE ROUTINE
Find a routine that you are comfortable with before you serve the pickleball. This pre-serve routine could be bouncing the pickleball with your hand or hitting the pickleball a few times with your paddle—whatever you feel comfortable with. This will help you tell your mind and body you are ready and also help you with your timing on your serve.
And, whatever your pre-serve routine is, be sure to say the score before you start any part of your serve. In other words, do not say the score and serve at the same time. Too many errors happen if you do both simultaneously. So, think, say the score, do your pre-serve routine, and then serve. 💪
